Redshaw Substation Project
Public consultation feedback form

Scotland is producing more clean, green energy than ever before, and we need to strengthen the transmission network so we can get it to the homes, schools and businesses that need it.

The Scottish and UK Governments are committed to increasing the use of renewable energy and have targets to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emission by 2045 in Scotland and 2050 in the UK.

To help make this happen we need to build a new substation at Redshaw in South Lanarkshire, opposite the former Red Moss hotel and close to the existing 400kV (400,000-volt) overhead transmission line, to strengthen the electricity transmission network and guarantee secure energy supplies for the future.

In June 2023 we consulted local people on our initial proposals. We have now refined our plans and we are holding a second round of public consultation, so local people can give us their views before we finalise our proposals and submit a planning application.

  • If you have any comments about the consultation process; and
  • Any other factors you would like us to consider. We would particularly like to hear your views on your local area e.g. areas you use for recreation, or local environmental features you would like us to consider.

Q1. Proposed new substation at Redshaw

We are proposing to build a new substation at Redshaw, near the former Red Moss Hotel (on the opposite side of the B7078 road and next to the existing 400kV overhead transmission line). Do you have any comments on our proposed site for the substation?

Q2: Proposed access arrangements

We propose to access the site from the B7078 road. Do you have any comments on our access proposals?

Q3: Do you have any comments about the consultation process?

Q4: Are there any other issues you would like us to consider?

Q5. How did you find out about the project and the consultation?

Thank you

Following this second round of consultation we will finalise our design for the substation layout, including proposed locations for buildings, equipment, access routes and landscaping.

We plan to submit a planning application under the Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Act 1997 (as amended) to South Lanarkshire Council in April or May 2025. The application will be accompanied by an Environmental Impact Assessment Report, and a report summarising the consultation feedback received and how this has influenced our proposals.

At this stage, your comments are not representations to the planning authority. When we submit an application for development consent, you will be able to make formal representations at that stage.
